Applicants appearing at the Consular Section without an advance appointment cannot be assisted on the same day. You are advised to make your appointment well in advance of your travel.
How to apply:
Visa applicants must register their application online through the Visa Self Service Denmark. Upon registration and payment of the visa fee, the applicant will be prompted to book a personal appointment at the Consulate General in New York for submitting passport and required documents. Required documents are listed below.Please submit:
1. A passport with a validity that exceeds the intended stay in Schengen by at least three months. Other travel documents by at least six months. Please make sure that your passport/travel document has a blank page to affix the visa.
2. One recent passport-size photograph. No hats, scarves, sunglasses etc. See photo requirements.
3. A valid U.S. Resident Alien Card (copies or notarized copies are not acceptable) or a valid U.S. visa (including the I-94 or I-94W form). Students should present a valid I-20. Exchange visitors should present a valid IAP-66. If returning to the U.S. the residence permit/visa must be valid for at least three months exceeding the last day of the intended stay in Denmark/Schengen.
4. Proof establishing the purpose of your trip, for example a letter of invitation. The letter of invitation should be addressed to you and include the length of your stay, the name, address, telephone number and signature of the person inviting you. If the purpose of your trip is business, please present an invitation from your business reference on company letterhead. E-mail invitations are not accepted.
5. A recent bank statement or international credit card statement in your name. You need to show that you have $ 50 per day while you are in the Schengen-area ($ 25 per day if you are staying with family or friends). If you are unable to submit a bank or credit card statement, you can submit copies of traveler’s checks.
6. Proof of accommodation, i.e. hotel reservation. If you are staying with family or friends you should submit a letter of invitation as described in 5.
7. Proof that you can continue your trip after your visit to the Schengen countries, i.e. confirmed itinerary from airline or travel agent. On approval of your Schengen visa your original airline ticket must be submitted. E-tickets showing ticket number and payment in full is acceptable. Please note that we do not encourage applicants to purchase airline tickets before their visas have been approved.
8. Proof of travel insurance (your insurance card is NOT sufficient). The insurance must be valid throughout the territory of the Schengen area and cover the entire period + 15 days at the end of the stay. The minimum coverage accepted is $37.500. Deductibles are not accepted. We do not encourage applicants to purchase the insurance before their visas have been approved.
9. If the applicant is a minor, written consent of the parent or guardian having custody of the child. The signatures on this document must be notarized. A birth certificate of the minor must also be presented, if necessary translated into English.
10. If you cannot pick-up your passport once the visa has been issued, the passport will be sent to your home or business address - at your own risk - via Federal Express. In this case an additional fee of $20 will be charged.

Processing timeMost applications for business, family- and tourist visa will be processed and decided by the Royal Danish Consulate General and will usually take 5-15 business days.
In some cases the application must be referred to the Danish Immigration Service in Denmark and the processing time normally is 1-3 business days plus the Danish Immigration Service's current processing time for visas.
